Preface

Maharishi Speaks to Educators has been compiled as a reference text to complement Maharishi Vedic University’s ‘Course for Educators’. Contained in four volumes with a total of twenty different themes, the main points of the knowledge in each lecture bring out the most salient points of the course.

These main points are from Maharishi’s lectures to educators around the world from 1970 to 1986. It will be interesting to the reader to know that in the beginning of the Movement Maharishi gave out the knowledge of life in terms of consciousness—in terms of the experience of consciousness through Transcendental Meditation—bringing to light the seven states of consciousness, and then created a new science, the Science of Creative Intelligence, in order to satisfy the intellect and provide a systematic understanding to the nature of consciousness, and a scientific basis to the experience of consciousness.

Scientific research on the physiological, psychological, sociological, and environmental effects of Transcendental Meditation further substantiated Transcendental Meditation and the Science of Creative Intelligence and presented an authentic record of reliability of experience and understanding of consciousness—the Ultimate Reality.

Maharishi’s Science of Creative Intelligence was recognized as an interdisciplinary study, and the study of every discipline of modern science was connected to Maharishi’s Science of Creative Intelligence on the ground of the practical experience of Transcendental Consciousness—the field of pure Creative Intelligence.

Having explained the experience and the effects of Transcendental Meditation in terms of the principles of different disciplines of modern science, and having seen the results of Transcendental Meditation documented by scientific research in all areas of life (in the fields of individual consciousness and collective consciousness); having substantiated his teaching of Transcendental Meditation from the principles and experimental technology of different disciplines of modern science, Maharishi wanted to support and give authenticity to the knowledge of life that he was teaching from the subjective approach of consciousness available in the Vedic Literature. For this purpose he organized the centuries-old, scattered Vedic Literature as the literature of a perfect science—Maharishi’s Vedic Science—the science and technology of consciousness, the Self of everyone—the science and technology of Veda—the science and technology of knowledge—the science and technology of knower, knowing, and known—the science and technology of Samhita of Rishi, Devata, Chhandas—the science and technology of Natural Law—the source, course, and goal of all creation.

Having achieved this, Maharishi thought of perpetuating this beautiful, holistic science of life and started to establish Vedic Universities and to introduce his Vedic Science on all levels of education in many countries throughout the world. Educators around the world will enjoy, in Maharishi’s own words, the ‘Definition and Scope’ of his Vedic Science in the inaugural publication of Maharishi Vedic University in Madhya Pradesh: Inauguration of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya (Maharishi Vedic University)—Vijaya Dashmi 1995, Maharishi Vedic University Press publication.
